Duplo @Drupa2012

The very latest in Print Finishing Systems will be demonstrated at the Duplo International Stand B53 in Hall 13. (Also for more information follow the #DuploDrupa on Twitter). By increasing the company’s footprint at DRUPA 2012 by 50%, it gives an even greater breadth of finishing equipment and in particular three examples of Duplo’s newly launched DBMi Saddle System.

Duplo shares the space alongside its valued German distributor FKS and eye catching overhead signage indicate the sections for Bindery, Saddle Stitching and Digital Finishing.

Saddle Stitching

The new DBMi Saddle System (#DuploDBMi) provides Book production for both Digital and Offset presses and with fast “make-ready” times of approximately  60 seconds and book thicknesses up to 120 pages it accommodates a large variety of formats including the increasingly popular A4 landscape size, right down to formats as small as 90mm x 75mm. It incorporates the latest technology allowing the totally automatic set up of all book parameters to be accurately and precisely registered.

Digital Finishing

DC-745 Production Colour Finisher with Integrated Folding System is the latest multi-function finishing machine in Duplo’s range designed for high volume digital colour print.   Automated Precision is exemplified by the integrated control provided in one pass for cutting, creasing and perforating operations in one pass.  Also featured is slit-scoring which is very popular for professional quality greetings cards.    Duplo will be showing for the first time a number of further enhancements to the range which include Strike Perforation (for stop/start perforating ideal for tear -out coupons and tickets), Embossing and Die-Cutting, and the Integrated Folding System which is the final step in complete single pass production of folded leaflets, greetings cards and mailing pieces.

Digital System 5000 Pro – a high performance digital bookletmaker – accepts sets of sequential printed sheets directly from a digital press then creases, slits, stitches, folds and trims to produce a complete high quality finished booklet in one pass.

It includes the high speed 400 sheets a minute Document Sheet Feeder 5000 which can merge digital and offset, mono and colour printed pages into one complete booklet.    Popular with commercial printers producing high volumes of digital print, the combination of barcode control with job report and auditing features make this system particularly attractive for producing high-value personalised booklets such as financial investment, insurance and pension policies.

Ultra 200A is suitable for both digital and offset environments. When Gloss, Matt or Silk or Satin finishes are required then UV coating continues to be an increasingly popular and less expensive alternative to lamination. The heavy duty Ultra 200A is operated by a simple key pad control and offers many significant benefits, including a long internal conveyor for improved double sided coating quality, and a double sheet detection system. A fully automatic cleaning process and an enclosed UV lamp chamber provides for a quick and safe operation at all times.

The highlight in the Bindery Section is the new FKS PrintBind KB-4000PUR is a single clamp binder offering high quality, on-demand PUR binding. The KB-4000 utilises the benefits of both PUR and EVA Hotmelt glues. PUR is applied down the spine of the book providing a strong and durable finish. The book block is then side glued using the quick drying Hotmelt glue, allowing the operator to handle the book soon after being produced. The PUR binder features a closed tank system, as a result, no fumes are emitted and the PUR glue inside the system is preserved for longer.    http://www.duplointernational.eu/products/perfect-binders/kb-4000-pur

The DPB-500PUR binder offers an extremely high degree of accuracy and security for both Offset and Digital perfect bound books. The DPB-500 PUR incorporates a fully automatic process allowing the operator to simply access from one of 20 job memories, via the touch screen monitor. All book parameters are accurately positioned within 30 seconds providing maximum productivity and precision at all times. The DPB-500PUR can be programmed to accommodate a range of specifications including book thickness, side gluing and cover scoring.

Duplo International has moved its International headquarters into a purpose built 10,000m2 facility known as ‘Automated Precision House’ situated in Addlestone, Surrey.

Automated Precision House, has been designed from the outset to comply with the latest standards of sustainability for the environment. Solar panels, rain water recycling, air and sun scoops are just a few of the features that have been incorporated into the building in line with Duplo’s corporate and social responsibility strategy.

Robin Greenhalgh, Duplo’s Chairman said “The new facility more closely reflects our Company’s brand image of sustainable high technology and ‘Automated Precision’. This is an exciting milestone in the history of Duplo International, as we can provide a centre of excellence for our customers as well as our staff, now all under one roof.” He continues “The new premises coupled with new products that we are launching in the next few months will be the platform to take Duplo to the next level. This is a great start to 2012, not only do we have new premises, but also a large stand at Drupa.”

The state of the art building boasts an impressive 85% reduction in carbon footprint and 65% reduction in running costs. They are able to do this by utilising equipment such as Air Source Heat Pumps which harvest warmth from the air which is then in turn used for the under floor heating. They are regarded as sustainable technology as they don’t use any fuel.

Jane Doyle, Head of HR at Duplo International commented “I have been involved with this project from the start and it was very important to us, and our mission to become carbon neutral, to reuse as many existing materials as possible. We’re even reusing some of the elements from our IPEX 2010 stand in our showroom”.

“Our mission is to become carbon neutral by 2013”. Doyle concludes.

As part of the celebrations, Duplo demonstrated the latest digital and offset print finishing equipments, which includes the launch of two new products. It was  hosted in the new 400m2 state of the art showroom.

Tokio Sakamoto, President of Duplo Corporation,  officially inaugurated APH on the 14th February by unveiling a commemorative plaque.
